Romanian newspaper circulation declines during first quarter

Romanian newspapers recorded a significant decrease in circulation in the first quarter of 2011, compared with same period of 2010, according to the data provided by the Romanian Audit Bureau of Circulations (BRAT), quoted by Mediafax newswire.

The leader of the quality category was Adevarul newspaper, edited by Adevarul Holding, that recorded in January 2011 average sales of 42,600 copies, down compared to January 2010, when sales averaged at some 129,000 copies. In February, average sales stood at 48,500 copies, while in March, Adevarul newspaper recorded an average of 43,400 copies.

Adevarul newspaper is followed by Jurnalul National, edited by Intact, then by Romania Libera edited by the “R” Society, and Evenimentul Zilei newspaper edited by Evenimentul Zilei Publishing and Capital.

On the sports dailies segment, Gazeta Sporturilor, edited by Convergent Media, ranks first in circulation chart, followed by Pro Sport. In the tabloid category, Click!, edited by Adevarul Holding, is the sales leader, followed by Libertatea and Can Can.

On the business segment, Ziarul Financiar daily had a sales average of 10,500 copies per issue in January, 10,600 copies in February, and 10,400 copies in March, according to BRAT.
