After the success of the first Black Friday discount day, Romania's online retailers are trying a new ploy. Online retailer MarketOnline.ro is offering 5 to 50 percent Ignat day discounts. Ignat ( December 20 ) is traditionally the day when pigs are slaughtered for Christmas in Romania. The Ignat tradition is strongest Romania's rural areas.

On November 25 this year several retailers in Romania adopted the American Black Friday heavy discounting concept and reduced prices for many of their products, like IT&C, music, films and toys. On this year's Black Friday online retailer eMAG posted sales of EUR 8 million, while Flanco reported around EUR 6 million sales.
