Romanian president Traian Basescu has become a grandfather after his daughter Elena Basescu gave birth to a baby girl. The baby, born three weeks earlier than scheduled, was delivered via a C-section.

The birth happened exactly a year after the president's daughter got married to Bogdan Ionescu.

Elena Basescu, the Romanian president's youngest daughter, is a Member of the European Parliament.

The president, who revealed his daughter was pregnant, as well as the baby's sex, was the first to post a picture of the newborn on his Facebook account, saying he is a 'happy grandfather.”
