Romanian public television gets less money from the state budget

14 December 2015

The Romanian Television Society (TVR) will receive about EUR 30 million from the state budget in 2016, down by 13.9% compared to this year.

The amount will be used to ensure the terrestrial broadcasting of the televisions in its portfolio, as well as for the operation of the TVR Moldova and TVR International TV stations.

The money represents about 29% of the company’s total funding sources, whereas the rest of 71% comes from own sources, according to TVR’s budget for 2016, reports local Mediafax.

The drop is a consequence of the transition process from analogue terrestrial television to digital television.

Romania’s public television TVR has had big financial problems this year, due to its historical debt and high operating costs.
