Romanian state employees earn more than private sector employees

The average net salaries in the public sector exceeded those in the private sector by almost 24% last year.

Starting 2007, the employees in public sector made on average more than those in the private sector, according to the National Institute of Statistics, reports Economica.net.

In 2008, the average monthly net salaries in the public sector were 52% higher than those in the private sector. Between 2009 and 2011, however, the wage growth in the public sector significantly dropped compared to the record level of 2008. The gap between the average wage in the public and private sector started going up again in 2012, reaching a new peak in 2014.

In 2012, the average monthly net salary from the state entered a growth trend, whereas the number of employees in the public sector has decreased continuously since 2008.
