Romania’s current account deficit down at EUR 285 mln in January-June

The balance of payments current account posted a deficit of EUR 285 million in January-June this year, down from EUR 863 million registered in the same period the year before, according to recent data from the country’s Central Bank BNR.

The decrease was registered amid the increase of the secondary income surplus (by EUR 603 million), the drop of the primary income deficit (by EUR 201 million), and the growth in the services surplus (by EUR 68 million).

The long-term external debt amounted to EUR 70.5 billion at the end of June (77.7% of the total external debt), down 6.8% from end-2014. Meanwhile, the short-term external debt went up 8.8% from the end of 2014, to EUR 20.2 billion.

The total external debt decreased by EUR 3.4 billion.
