Romania's Foreign Intelligence confirms 2009 speculative attacks over local currency
Romania's Foreign Intelligence Service (SIE) warned the local authorities on the economic crisis and the speculative attack over the Romanian currency two years ago, according to Mihai Razvan Ungureanu, head of SIE. Ungureanu, a former minister of foreign affairs between 2004 and 2007, confirmed the serious attacks over the Romanian currency, which were however carried through legal ways, he said in a TV show during last week-end.
The Foreign Intelligence Service follows the international economic movements which could influence Romania's situation, and these include the monetary forecast, the stock market evolution, monopoly-like deals, among others, according to Ungureanu.
The speculative attack on the RON was carried through at the same time with similar attacks over other national currencies two years ago, he said.
