Romania's forest management company sells fewer Christmas trees this year
Romania’s state-owned forest management company Romsilva sells 33,383 Christmas trees this year. The figure is much lower than last year when Romsilva put up for sale more than 66,700, reports local Agerpres.
According to a company statement, the prices remain the same as in 2014, varying between RON 10 and RON 30 (EUR 2.2-6.7), without VAT.
“The requests for trees higher than 3 meters are considered special orders and each forest department will approve the price, starting from a tariff of RON 20 per meter,” reads Romsilva’s statement.
To avoid illegal logging and trade of Christmas trees, Romsilva, together with the Romanian Police, the Romanian Gendarmerie, and the Forestry Guards conduct joint actions in the forests, on the roads, and in the markets. The control actions target Christmas trees from domestic production, as well as imported trees.
