Romania’s Larisa Iordache lands second silver medal at Nanning World Championship

13 October 2014

Romanian gymnast Larisa Iordache snatched her second medal at the Nanning World Championship in China last week-end, another silver for her floor performance. This came after Iordache won the silver for her all-round performance, when she shared the podium with two American gymnasts (top image).

This time, she outperformed Russian Aliya Mustafina, who got the bronze, and was outranked by American Simone Biles (bottom image).

The Romanian unfortunately fell off the balance beam so she lost the podium for this apparatus, ranking 5th for her performance.

The Nanning World Gymnastics Championship took place between October 3 and on October 12, and gathered 600 competitors from 74 countries. The first 24 teams who qualified advanced to the World Championship in Glasgow in 2015, and the first eighth in that championship will go to the Olympic Games in Rio in 2016. Romania already qualified for Glasgow.

Larisa Iordache, 18, has been winning medals at various European and World Championships in the last years. She is a 5-time European gold medalist, an Olympic bronze medalist with the team in 2012, and a 7-time gold medalist in the World Cups.  She has been competing since 2008.
