Romania's new PM discovers problems with EU funds
Romania’s Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos said on Friday that he discovered that the Regional Operational Programme for the 2007-2013 financing period was blocked following an audit of the European Commission, but he understood that the deadlock could be broken quickly so payments would be resumed.
The IT system for the same program’s 2014-2020 programming period didn’t function either, Ciolos added, reports local Hotnews.ro. Moreover, the accreditation procedures were not yet completed.
The Prime Minister met with Corina Cretu, the EU Commissioner for Regional Policy, who pointed out that Romania had only six weeks left to send its invoices to the European Commission and to get reimbursements for the projects implemented with EU funds from the 2007-2013 programming period. The deadline is December 31, 2015.
“Romania needs stability at the level of management authorities during these six weeks,” said Cretu.
