Romania’s tax authorities set up department to control online retail
Romania’s tax agency ANAF plans to set up a department for controlling the online retail.
ANAF has already asked for information from the OLX.ro and Okazii.ro classifieds websites, as well as from courier companies, reports local Profit.ro.
The tax authorities also want to receive data on the transactions individuals and companies make through payment processors such as Visa, Mastercard, PayPal, PayU.
The aim is to discover the online sellers that avoid paying taxes, according to an ANAF document. The anti-fraud department of ANAF is already monitoring the online stores with reduced prices, the sellers on the OLX.ro and Okazii.ro platforms that trade high volumes, as well as online stores of companies from other countries that have a high traffic.
The tax authorities will set up a special department to streamline its activities in this field, where it will employ IT specialists as well as experts in tax investigations.
