Russia reveals how much gas transits Romania on the way to EU
For the first time in history, Russia has revealed the quantity of gas that transits Romania on its way to the European Union countries in southern Europe.
Romania's gas transporter Transgaz now displays information about the flow of Russian gas towards Europe via Romania. However, the info is not up to date but has a two-day delay, reports local Economica.net.
Gazprom has finally accepted EU’s demand and agreed to make public the daily amount of gas it sends to the EU. It is the first time in 40 years, since Romania has become a transit country for Russian gas, that the data on the quantity of gas transiting Romania is public.
“EU has negotiated several issues with Gazprom lately, including the transparency of gas flows to Europe. It is a historic decision," says Petru Vaduva, Transgaz director.
For example, 765,000 MWh of gas entered Romania on December 7, through the frontier with Ukraine, and 769,000 MWh exited Romania through the border with Bulgaria. Russian gas arrives to Bulgaria, and from there, to southern Europe.
The transit gas piper Transgaz operates are completely separate from the national gas transport system which supplies consumers in Romania.
