Schalke 04 owner has biggest ecological farm in Romania

A company based in the Romanian city of Iasi and belonging to German investor Clemens Tonnies owns the largest organic farm in Romania.

Tonnies also owns the Schalke 04 football club, one of Germany’s biggest. The company he runs in Romania is called Orgapic SRL, and cultivates more than 2,900 hectares in Iasi, in Eastern Romania, reports local Economica.net.

The firm cultivates organic wheat, barley and soybeans, and is currently in the conversion period to register new organic crops for durum wheat and peas.

Orgapic had a turnover of over EUR 3.6 million and a net profit of EUR 1.7 million, in 2013. It had almost 40 employees.

The German group Tonnies Anlage-Und Vermogensverwaltung GMBH, which is owned by the Tonnies family, is one of the biggest European companies in the agriculture and food sector. It has more than 8,000 employees in eight production sites in Germany and Denmark.
