Shimon Peres starts official visit to Bucharest on Wednesday
Israeli president Shimon Peres will start his first official visit to Romania today as part of his official tour in the region. Bulgaria was also included in his tour. Peres will meet Romanian president Traian Basescu and will take part in a commemorative ceremony for the six Israeli military who died in July after a helicopter crash in Bucegi mountains. He will stay in Romania until August 13 and he will also meet the Romanian prime Minister, the heads of the Senate and of the Chamber of Deputies.
Shimon Peres, a Nobel prize for peace laureate in 1994, is the ninth and current President of the State of Israel. During his 66-year political career, Peres served as thePrime Minister of Israel and has been a member of 12 cabinets. He has been the president of Israel since 2007. Shimon Peres, born Szymon Perski in 1923 in Poland, is a Harvard graduate. He has written several books starting the 60s. Among the most well known is Battling for Peace: a memoir, which was published in 1995, a year after Peres got the Nobel prize for Peace.
