Social Democratic Party Senator: Romanian state-owned TV station has debts of EUR 100 mln
Social Democratic Party (PSD) Senator Olguta Vasilescu (in picture) recently wrote on her blog that Romania’s state-owned television station (TVR) has accumulated debts of EUR 100 million. “Shocking! TVR has reached EUR 100 million in debt! As much as TAROM and the Romanian Post debts together!” she wrote.
The politician notified the Court of Accounts and said that the National Anti-corruption Department (DNA) should take action.
Olguta Vasilescu also attached a transcript of discussions between the members of TVR’s Board held on November 29, 2011. In the transcript, TVR’s Director Alexandru Lazarescu explains that the station’s losses are “cumulative” and that the critical moment was between 2009 and 2010. In 2010 TVR’s losses reached RON 162 million (EUR 38.4 million).
