Social entrepreneur Arnoud Raskin, inventor of mobile school, to attend open event in Bucharest
Dutch social entrepreneur Arnoud Raskin (in picture), who has had the idea of starting a mobile school for homeless children and who will deliver a speech at the TEDx Bucharest event on Friday, October 15, will further attend an open event on Sunday meeting people who are concerned about social entrepreneurship and alternative education methods.
The brunch will take place in Sarlo Café Pub in Romana Square (35 Dacia Blvd), starting at 11.00 hours. The participation fee is RON 50 and free for roPot members, in the account of an evening from their membership package. All applications will be sent to contact@ropot.ro and close on Friday, October 15. The event is organized by the social entrepreneurs’ community roPot, with the help of TEDxBucharest. 40 percent of the total fees will be redirected to an NGO that has a good, coherent project to help homeless children, according to the organizers.
Building on an academic background in industrial design and cultural studies, Arnoud Raskin took his inspiration from the time he was a social worker in Columbia to think about an educational project that could help homeless children. Because the classical learning methods were obviously not working for socially challenged groups of people, particularly youngsters, Arnoud Raskin thought about a school that is tailored to meet their needs. So he invented a telescopic blackboard, over 250 educational games and a mobile means of transporting all these. Then he reinvented a teacher who is able to use them properly. Now, the mobile school is present in over 30 places all over Latin America, Asia, Africa and Europe.
