Statistics: Tourist arrivals in Romania up 3.5% in 2013
Arrivals in tourist accommodation units in Romania amounted to 7.9 million in 2013, up 3.5 percent year-on-year, according to the data provided by the National Statistics Institute INS.
The arrivals of Romanian tourists represented 78.3 percent of the total, while foreign tourists’ arrivals were 21.7 percent, close to the level of 2012.
Most of the foreign tourists arriving in tourist accommodation units in Romania were from Europe, according to the INS.
Last year, the arrivals at hotels represented 74.7 percent of the total arrivals in tourist accommodation units, up 2.4 percent compared to 2012.
The overnight stays amounted to 19.3 million in 2013, up 1.1 percent compared to the previous year.
According to INS, the average time of a stay was 2.6 days for Romanian tourists and 2 days for foreigners.
The arrivals of foreign tourists to Romania, registered at the customs, amounted to some 8 million in 2013, slightly up compared to the previous year. Most of the foreigners came from European countries, namely 93.9 percent.
The departures of Romanian visitors abroad, according to customs, amounted to 11.3 million, up 1.9 percent year-on-year.
In December 2013, the arrivals in tourist accommodation units in Romania amounted to 498,000, representing an 8.5 percent increase compared to 2012, according to INS.
