The ‘Romania’ container train carrying Renault car parts derails near Moscow, 9 dead

A container train carrying car parts for Renault Romania derailed near Moscow on Tuesday, May 20, according to sources quoted by the Interfax newswire.

All 16 wagons derailed because of a track flaw, and collided with a passenger train between the stations of Bekasovo and Naro-Fominsk, 50 kilometers from Moscow.

The train was servicing the route – Romania – Ukraine – Russia. Nine died and 45 were injured, according to the preliminary data. There were about 400 people in the passenger train, according to ITAR-TASS.

The freight train is called ‘Romania’ and is managed by the Ukrainian state firm Liski, according to Interfax, quoted by Mediafax.
Renault Romania representatives confirmed the train was carrying parts for the company and said they were keeping an eye on the situation, but added it was too early to discuss any measures.
