Transporters organize new protests in Bucharest

26 September 2018

The Confederation of Authorized Operators and Transporters in Romania (COTAR) announced it would bring 500 buses in Bucharest for two days of protests.

The transporters’ protest, which will take place near the Transport Ministry’s headquarters, will determine traffic restrictions in the area around the Gara de Nord train station. Protests take place on September 26 and 27.

The transporters are unhappy with the Transport Ministry’s intention to change some rules for road passenger transport services. COTAR representatives claim that the proposed changes will push many road passenger carriers into insolvency.

Transport minister Lucian Sova said that the current regulations need to be changed as there are 325 companies in Romania that have had exclusive rights to carry out regular road passenger transport services in the last 15 years and no other company can enter this segment.
