Verdi’s A Masked Ball premiers at the Bucharest Opera House

04 April 2017

The opera A Masked Ball by Giuseppe Verdi will have its first performances at the National Opera in Bucharest on April 8 and 9.

The show is directed by German Grischa Asagaroff, while the choreography belongs to Renato Zanella, the artistic coordinator of the ballet corps of the Bucharest Opera. Italian Luigi Perego designed the scenography, while Gigi Saccomandi was in charge with the light design. The performance will be conducted by Marcello Mottadelli, the musical artistic coordinator of the Bucharest Opera.

“I have chosen, together with Luigi Perego, my collaborator of 20 years, to move the action in the 30s, something that is reflected in the costumes but also in the setting. It can take place anywhere in the world, a few references place it in America, but the stage sets are valid for any place because the story is universal, it transcends time and places,” said director Grischa Asagaroff.

For the night of April 8, Dario Di Vietri will be cast as Riccardo, Andrea Dankova as Amelia, Lucian Petrean as Renato, Liliana Mattei Ciucă as Ulrica, Ramona Păun as Oscar, Filip Panait as Tom, Iustinian Zetea as Samuel, Radu Ion as Silvano, Ciprian Pahonea as the first player, and Constantin Negru as Amalia’s servant.

Tickets can be purchased at the opera’s website or ticket office.
