Wealth Report: Romania, number 42 in global financial assets ranking for 2012

Romania has come 42nd in a global ranking of the net financial assets per capita in 52 countries around the world.

The Allianz Global Wealth Report shows Romania had EUR 2,230 per capita at the end of 2012, almost 27 percent below the peak recorded in 2007, of EUR 3,186 per capita.

“Although net per capita financial assets in Romania have increased almost eight-fold since the end of 2000, Romanian households are still bottom of the league with EUR 2,330 per capita,” reads the report.

However, Romania is ahead of countries such as Turkey with EUR 1,614 per capita, Russia - EUR 1,700 per capita, Ukraine with net financial assets of EUR 1,300 per capita, Argentina - EUR 1,200 per capita, India or Thailand.

However it is quite far behind some other Eastern European countries: Bulgaria with EUR 4460 per capita, Hungary - EUR 6,534 or Poland - EUR 5,221 per capita.

Across the globe, the gross financial assets of private households in 2012 climbed by 8.1 percent compared to 2011, bringing total global assets to a record level of EUR 111.2 trillion.
