Who will coach Romanian tennis star Simona Halep next year?
Romanian tennis player Simona Halep recently announced who will be her personal coach next year. According to a post on her Facebook page, Australian Darren Cahill will be the one who will train her in 2016.
“Starting January 2016, my personal coach will be Darren Cahill. He will also keep his role as men’s tennis analyst for the Grand Slam events on the US sports network ESPN, which will not prevent him from coaching me full time,” Halep said on Facebook.
Cahill worked with high-profile players over time, such as Andy Murray, Ana Ivanovic, and Fernando Verdasco. Besides Sinoma Halep, he also trained another Romanian tennis player – Sorana Carstea.
With Darren Cahill next to her, Halep won the Indian Wells tournament this year, played the finals in Toronto and Cincinnati, reached the semifinals in the US Open, this year. The two started working together in March this year, through Adidas' Player Development Program, which has been discontinued.
Simona Halep is at number two in the WTA ranking of best female tennis players in the world, with 6,060 points.
