Romania’s trade deficit narrowed to EUR6.9 billion in January to September, from EUR 7.1 billion in the year-earlier period, as exports rose more rapidly than imports, according to the country’s statistics institute INS. Exports rose 26.5 percent on the year to EUR 26.8 billion, while imports were up 18.9 percent to EUR 33.7 billion.

Intercapital Invest brokerage company launched the Initial Public Offering (IPO) for the closed-end investment fund iFond Gold, which will invest in shares of mining companies listed on foreign stock markets. The fund aims to invest 40 percent of its resources in Gabriel Resources shares, which runs the Rosia Montana gold mining project, as well as in European Goldfields, which runs the Certej gold mining project in Apuseni mountains in Romania.

Telecom company Vodafone Romania posted EUR 425.7 million in revenues between April and September this year, down 12.4 percent on the same period last month. Its profit before taxes (EBITDA) was of EUR 177.1 million, covering around 41 percent of the revenues.

Intel will invest several millions of euros into a software development center which will be located in Romania and which will initially hire a staff of 25, mainly focusing on the development of the MeeGo open-source platform. Intel Romania Software Development Center will initially work on the MeeGo platform, a joint project of The Linux Foundation, supported by Intel and Nokia.

Romanian overdue payments on loans of at least RON 20,000 (around EUR 4,700) more than doubled to RON 14.6 billion (EUR 3.4 billion) in September compared to the same month last year, according to data from the Romanian Central Bank (BNR). Compared with August, overdue loan payments grew by 7.7 percent in September, data shows.

Romania's construction output fell 15.1 percent in September compared to the same month a year earlier, with decreases in all sectors, according to the National Institute for Statistics. Residential building works fell 35.9 percent on the year in September, while civil engineering works and non-residential constructions were down 12.7 percent and 0.3 percent respectively.
