Ford Romania’s business stagnated in 2019 but may rise this year
Ford Romania, the second-largest carmaker on the local market, announced its turnover remained steady last year at almost EUR 2.2 billion, marginally down from EUR 2.27 billion in 2018, Ziarul Financiar reported.
The company may record a new increase this year, despite the pandemic, thanks to the new Puma SUV model launched at the end of last year.
The company's net profit decreased by 11% in 2019, to EUR 33.6 mln.
The average number of employees was 5,289 last year.
Still, the workforce rose to 6,000 at the end of the year after a massive recruitment process due to the entry into production of the new Puma SUV, alongside existing model EcoSport.
Starting with the second half of July this year, Ford resumed the production in three shifts at the Craiova plant, which means that about 1,000 Puma and EcoSport SUVs are coming out of the factory gates each day.
