Romanian Prime Minister Emil Boc and Transport Minister Anca Boagiu on Saturday cut the ribbon to open a new ten-kilometer section of the Transylvania Highway between Turda and Campia Turzii in northwestern Romania. Boc then got behind the wheel to test the road together with the transport minister.

The Bucharest City Hall has started demolishing the old houses on the Buzesti boulevard in the capital city to expand the boulevard. The first houses – on the right side of the boulevard, coming from Victoriei Square to Vasile Parvan – were demolished on Thursday night and 87 houses in total will be knocked down to make room for the extension.

Two tourism associations, APDT Brasov and Association Monteoru Renaissance have recently launched the Carpathian Tourism Cluster Romania, a network of regional and national stakeholders in the Romanian tourism industry. The aim of this cluster is to support sustainable tourism development and create additional value for the tourism industry in region of the Carpathian Mountains. Members of the cluster are tourism development associations, NGOs, local and national authorities, tour operators, travel agencies, tourism guides, event agencies, suppliers of the tourism industry and service and consulting companies.

Romanian drivers will not be obliged to equip their vehicles with snow tires this winter. The measure will be implemented starting November 2011. Romanian Transport Minister Anca Boagiu said Thursday drivers who will cause accidents or block streets because their cars are not properly equipped will be fined and will be compelled to cover road-clearing costs if they get snowed in.

Several companies announced their financial results yesterday and the Romanian media was quick to capture them: A&D Pharma, Rompetrol Rafinare, Ranbaxy, Edy International Spedition. Most of them posted positive results, which trigger hopes of growth for the future too. Meanwhile, a new real estate investment was announced: the Electroputere shopping center in Craiova, which will include an Auchan hypermarket and several other retail brands from the portfolio owned by billionaire family Mulliez, writes the local media.
