The famous Orient Express on Monday stopped, for the first time in the latest 12 years, while traveling between Paris and Istanbul, Istanbul and Venice respectively, in the Royal Station of the Sinaia mountain resort (Prahova County, north of Bucharest), where the about 100 passengers enjoyed a red-carpet welcome.

Two people have died from the West Nile virus in Romania, out of a total of seven people carrying the virus, according to the Romanian Health Ministry. The two people who died were 75 and 79 and had other illnesses as well.

Romanian writer Florin Iaru's photography exhibition will be opened on Wednesday, September 1st, at the Anthony Frost English Bookshop in Bucharest. The fourth issue of the photography magazine Punctum will also be launched at the event. The exhibition will be opened all thorough September.

Acid jazz band 'Butterflies in my stomach' will play at the Verona Garden (Carturesti bookshop) in Bucharest on September 10, while on September 16 it will perform at the Green Hours Garden, according to the Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR).

The Romanian Journalists Federation MediaSind and the Romanian Democratic Trade Unions Confederation (CSDR) draw the attention of the European Parliament on the violation of the freedom of speech and information in Romania . The two institutions have sent the president of the European Parliament's Commission on Petitions, Erminia Mazzoni a letter denouncing changes which violate the freedom of speech in the country, according to Agerpres.

Romanian meteorologists Monday issued a code yellow rain and storm advisory for 30 counties in central, northern, eastern and western parts of the country, valid from Tuesday at 2 a.m. until Tuesday at 8 p.m.

The premises of the current Atheneum used to host a monastery built in 1764 by Mihai Cantacuzino, the son of Matei Cantacuzino Magureanu. The monastery was surrounded by an orchard named Vacareasca's Orchard, taking by the name of Mihai's wife, Elena Vacarescu, who had received it as dower.
