Romania’s major union federations are planning a major rally in capital Bucharest on October 27, when the Parliament will debate the opposition’s no-confidence motion that aims to overthrow the Government over its austere measures.
The Senate on Tuesday passed by unanimous vote a Government's draft law concerning some expropriation measures in the case of projects of national, local and county interest, as amended by the Committee on Privatisation and the Judicial Committee.
The Romanian Chamber of Deputies approved the law project which enables the inclusion of bonuses into the base salary for certain categories of state employees. The lack of these bonuses was the main reason which triggered protests at the Finance Ministry last week and the Finance Minister promised protesters they would get the bonuses for the summer.

Union leader Ion Radoi told a news conference Monday employees might trigger a work conflict mid-November and go as far as staging a full-blown strike if the Government lowers the company's budget or eliminates workers' bonuses for special conditions when it drafts the 2011 state budget.
