Artmark auction house will organize an auction with EUR 1 million worth of paintings on December 16 in Bucharest and in Sibiu. The paintings by Romanian artists will be simultaneously auctioned from Bucharest and Sibiu through a duplex electronic system. The auction is organized in partnership with Brukental Museum in Sibiu. The Bucharest auction will take place at the J.W Marriott hotel, while the one in Sibiu, at the Hilton Hotel Sibiu, both starting 19,30 hours.

Romania will issue only 5,500 work permits for foreigners next year, 2,500 fewer than this year, and will issue fewer work authorizations to temporary employees, for whom social security contributions are not paid.

The Czech Cultural Center in Bucharest will screen the Metrobranding documentary on December 13, from 20,00 hours. The documentary will feature Romanian brands like Relaxa the mattress, Dragasani sneakers, Pegas the bicycle, Mobra the motorcycle, the Fieni bulbs and Ileana the sewing machine, which were once the stars of the Romanian golden era. The documentary will also have English subtitles.

The revenues on the telecom segment in Romania continued to drop this year, but to a lower extent than in 2009, according to Catalin Marinescu, president of the National Authority for Management and Regulation in Communications (ANCOM). Last year, the market reached EUR 3.9 billion, down 15 percent on 2008.

The European Commission has recently given the green light for the construction of two additional reactors at Romania’s sole nuclear power plant in Cernavoda. Romania, through state-owned nuclear energy company Nuclearelectrica, controls 51 percent in EnergoNuclear, a joint venture set up to build two new reactors at the country's sole nuclear power plant in Cernavoda.
